West Texas Outlaws

Play Hard.  Play Smart.

A winner is someone who recognizes his God-given talents, works his tail off to develop them into skills, and uses these skills to accomplish his goals.
- Larry Bird

The West Texas Outlaws are committed to playing the game of basketball and learning the life lessons that come from teamwork, selflessness, individual sacrifice for a common goal and hard work.  We remember the words of the inventor of the game, Dr. James Naismith,
"Be strong in body, clean in mind, lofty in ideals."

As Bob Knight said, "most people have the will to win, few have the will to prepare to win."  Our individual players know that nothing works unless they do. The team strives to use each player's talents to the full benefit of the team.

We try to do our very best but we do not take ourselves too seriously. We try to have fun and enjoy the time we spend together.  We remember the words of the Hall of Fame coach Dean Smith, who said, "If you make every game a life and death proposition, you're going to have problems.  For one thing, you'll be dead alot."

At all times, we are committed to sportsmanship and ethical competition.  The team tries to embody the old adage that "basketball does not build character, it reveals it."

Talent wins games.
But teamwork and intelligence wins championships.
- Michael Jordan
